Barinova E.P.

Abstract

Problems of the choice of a course of life, political, social and cultural self-
identification became main both for the certain personality, and for social groups, classes and estates as a result of the Great Russian revolution of 1917. They have found the reflection in personal correspondence and diaries, the subsequent memories of representatives of pre-revolutionary elite of events of the Great Russian revolution and civil war. The analysis of letters of arrested and convicts in the Political Red Cross (1918-1922), and also addresses of political and public figures, representatives of the creative intellectuals to their protection allows to track changes in policy of the Soviet power in relation to the nobility. During Civil war mass arrests of representatives of the nobility as "hostages" at deterioration of the situation on fronts of civil war have been carried out or after attempts at members of the government. Noble correspondence reflected the relation of a considerable part of the former exclusive estate to the new power, to sharp deterioration in material living conditions and change of the social status. The daily occurrence realities described in letters reflection of circumstances of arrest and a course of investigation allow to draw a conclusion that authorities were
afraid of any potential opposition.

Image of Boris Godunov in Russian Historical Tradition

Ebbinghaus A.

Abstract

This article analyzes aspects of representation of Boris Godunov in Russian historiography since the early seventeenth century. We first document the influence of medieval historical thinking (for example, the opposition between the martyred prince Boris and Sviatopolk) and of hagiography (life of St. Dmitriy of Uglic). This influence can be seen on the level of historiographical concepts (for example, the interpretation of the image of the False Dmitry as the historical revenge for the murder of the tsarevitch Dmitriy), but also on the level of representation of historical facts (for example, the circumstances of Boris Godunov’s death). Finally, we examine how Karamzin’s History of Russian State and Puskin’s Boris Godunov treat previous depictions of Godunov.

Inaugural addresses are considered to be a special traditional genre of political discourse and therefore they possess some linguistic instruments that lead to success in communication. Deixis is one of such instruments. Being a category of pragmatics deixis is polyfunctional. Using deictic means in speech American presidents perform needed linguistic manipulations, apply communicative strategies of positive self-presentation, appeal to the feeling of national pride, create the image of enemy the nation needs to fight with, inspire the idea of unity and equality among politicians and common citizens.

CRITICAL DISCOURSE ANALYSIS AS THE METHODOLOGY OF INVESTIGATION OF IMMIGRATION DISCOURSE

Matytsina M.S.

Abstract

The article considers the main categories, conceptual and theoretical positions of critical discourse analysis. Within the framework of this direction, discourse is considered as a form of social interaction, where the power, exercising its domination in society, forms negative images of “others” as representatives of other races, ethnic groups and cultures. Hence, the study of immigration discourse as the object of critical research is based on the conceptual and methodological basis of critical discourse analysis. A thematic review of critical studies devoted to the analysis of the discursive manifestation of xenophobia towards immigrants in the media and political discourse demonstrates an increased interest to this issue in the works of modern linguists.
