Abstract
The article considers the main categories, conceptual and theoretical positions of critical discourse analysis. Within the framework of this direction, discourse is considered as a form of social interaction, where the power, exercising its domination in society, forms negative images of “others” as representatives of other races, ethnic groups and cultures. Hence, the study of immigration discourse as the object of critical research is based on the conceptual and methodological basis of critical discourse analysis. A thematic review of critical studies devoted to the analysis of the discursive manifestation of xenophobia towards immigrants in the media and political discourse demonstrates an increased interest to this issue in the works of modern linguists.
