Abstract

This article is aimed at describing the peculiarities of ironic utterances of male and female English drama personages. The proximity of drama language to real speech provides a platform for cognitive analysis of the English-speaking personages’ speech acts in terms of their gender characteristics. The aim of the article is to identify and compare the strategic aspects of ironic utterances in the communicative space of male and female characters in modern
British, American, Canadian and Australian drama discourses.
