The article focuses on the new Russian vocabulary of the current

decade. Based on the analysis of data from the card file of new

words (Institute for Linguistic Studies, Russian Academy of

Sciences) the main trends in its development are noted: the

implementation of the word-formation means as the main source

of renewal and replenishment of the Russian dictionary, the

prevalence of different types of addition and the development of

analytical forms and models, expansion in the print media of new

words written in Latin letters and the activation of the verbal

derivation. As illustrative material the lexical items of different

types are presented, including the new socio-political vocabulary

as well as a set of neologisms related to the selfie-phenomenon.
