Abstract
Relying on archival materials and sources of personal origin, the characteristics of Cossack’s horse, which, along with his master has been adjusting to extreme field conditions of life, is presented in the article. The choice of was conditioned by climatic conditions where he was expected to serve. Cossack children from the age of two began to ride and by the time the service began between rider and the horse existed a mutual understanding. The author concludes that the horse for a Cossack was much more than just a domestic animal or a symbol of status. It was true comrade from whom the success and life of a Cossack depended on.
