Abstract
This article is devoted to the analysis of historical researches of the policy of Christianization of people of Volga region in XVIII- XIX centuries by a contemporary American historian Paul William Werth (Paul William Werth). The historian in his researches shows difficult complex of relationships between central, regional and religious authorities in the formation of religious policy in the region.
