Abstract
The article deals with history of formation, growth, division of the largest landowners’ estates of the Volga region belonging to the Orlovs and Orlov-Davidovs. The role of the owners of serf patrimonies and their peasants in the settlement and landreclamation in the South-East of European Russia is shown.
