Abstract

The article considers the progressive spread of Islam in the Volga Bulgaria, which consists in the strengthening of statehood, the development of economic and cultural ties with the Muslim East. The historical role of Islam, one of the world monotheistic religions as an ideological superstructure, spiritual foudation at formation of feudal state is viewed. Special attention is given to the process according to which up to the beginning of the Xth century Bulgaria became Volga brunch of Islamic civilization and was regarded as an original part of Baghdad Haliphate.
