Abstract

The author proves, on the example of secondary diminutives

derivation models historical development, the thesis that structural

and semantic dynamics of word-formative patterns provides valuable

information about the development of both language and thought.

The changes can apply to each component of word-formation

semantic and structural model: motivational base of a given group

of derivatives, their word-formative means, word-formation meaning

of the resulted word-formation units. The article deals with historical

dynamics at the level of each of the mentioned components in

secondary diminutives formation models. It also provides cognitive

interpretation of the given structural and semantic changes.
