Abstract

The article reveals the importance of Novgorod birchbark manuscripts as a source of researching the history of language. A fundamental question about the nature of genre of Novgorod birchbark letters is raised. Much attention is paid to the connotations of recorded manuscripts. Derivational means of expression evaluation are discussed. Evaluative suffixes are analyzed, its evolution is determined on the material of Novgorod birchbark manuscripts.
