Abstract

The article is concerned with the understanding of man in S.L. Frank’s philosophy as it is represented in the thinker’s early and later works – Man’s Soul. An Introduction to Philosophy of Psychology (1916) and Reality and Man (1949). In the book published in 1916 Frank saw his goal in designing a philosophical conception of man’s spiritual life which could, firstly, illuminate the foundations of absolute integrity of man and, secondly, could reveal man’s spiritual life as a special form of being. In the latter case Frank’s idea was to a large extent close to Heidegger’s philosophy of existentialism. Pointing out in the book of 1949 the importance of existential approach to the understanding of man’s being, Frank developed his own vision of human ontology.
