Abstract
This article is devoted to the analysis of essence of subbotniks as poorly known mass social phenomenon, social significance, forms of activity and social composition of participants of which depend noticeably on the purpose of organizers of these events. In the article it is shown that in modern Russian society often different, sometimes antagonistic political forces organize subbotniks to attract people to their side and to expand their social base.
