Abstract
The article deals with living and scientific feat of A.I. Mankiev who being in Swedish captivity created one of the most famous works on Russian history in the XVIII century. The manuscripts of his work «The Core of Russian History» were widespread, two of them have been found and studied in Samara Regional Scientific Library. These manuscripts are the evidence of interest to the Russian history among educated people of that time.
