Abstract
Neoinstitutionalism or otherwise new institutional economics currently is one of the leading, most rapidly developing and promising areas of economic thought. In the given article one of the theories of institutional economics, theory of institutional changes of a leading economist of America, Douglas Cecil North, Nobel prize winner is viewed. The ways of changing institutes, correlation of formal and not formal institutes, and their interrelation are studied; also the influence of institutes on the economic potential and growth is analyzed.
