The journal «Vestnik of Samara State University» was founded in 1995 by the Samara State University (Сertificate of registration of the journal ПИ № 77-12398 from 19.04.2002, issued by the Russian Federation Ministry of Press, Broadcasting and Mass Communication, ISSN 1810-5378). It comes in two series: Natural Sciences and Humanitarian. Since 2011, a series of «Economics and Management» was spun off from Humanitarian series. Since 2015, the journal was divided into four independent journals:  «Vestnik of Samara State University», «Vestnik of Samara State University. Natural Science Series», «Vestnik of Samara State University. Series "Economics and Management"», «Juridical Journal of Samara State University».

Since 2016 in connection with the reorganization of the university and the change of the founder of the journal «Vestnik of Samara State University. Natural Science Series» it was re-registered under the name of «Vestnik Samarskogo universiteta. Estestvennonauchnaya seriya / Vestnik of Samara University. Natural Science Series».

The journal is included by the Higher Attestation Commission in the List of leading scientific journals and publications in the Russian Federation, where basic scientific results of doctoral theses should be published since 2003, as included in the international database zbMATH.
