Abstract
In the article the state of modern machine builing complex of Russia as the basis of industrial production is investigated. On the one hand the mutual influence of level of development of science and technique in the country and the structure of national machine builing is traced; on the other hand the role of machine building complex as the locomotive of scientific and technological advance in all sectors of economy of the country is revealed. The ways of active modernization of machine building complex for the formation of innovative economy of Russia are suggested.
