Dynamics of towing tethered spacecraft in the central gravitational field

Abstract

The motion of spacecraft as a rigid body connected to a space tow with a viscoelastic tether in the central gravitational field is discussed in the paper. The equations of spacecraft spatial motion and the orbital motion of the system’s center of mass in osculating elements are obtained on the basis of Lagrange formalism. The influence of the system’s parameters and the initial conditions of motion on the motion of the spacecraft is analyzed. The possibility of critical modes of motion leading to the entanglement of the tether is shown.

Abstract

The system approach to the designing of universal platforms (UP) for small space vehicles (SSV) with the use of the modular principle is presented. An algorithm of target equipment (TA) adaptation to the universal platform as well as an algorithm of integration of modular components at the stage of the formation of SSV design shape are described. The problem of UP design optimization is dealt with. The realization of the system approach is presented, the development of the SSV “AIST” taken as an example.

Assessing the efficiency of flights to high near-earth orbits using boosters with chemical and electro-rocket engines

Abstract

A flight to high near-earth orbits using a two-stage booster with a sequential arrangement of stages with chemical and electro-rocket engines is discussed in the paper. Simulation for a number of flight schemes is presented. Areas of preferential application of different types of boosters are determined in terms of maximum payload mass placed on the target orbit.

Numerical simulation of gas temperature spatial distribution in a one-burner sector of a gas turbine combustor with uncertain initial conditions of fuel atomization

Abstract

The influence of the initial conditions used when modeling atomized fuel on the accuracy of gas temperature field non-uniformity at the exit of a helicopter gas turbine annular reverse-flow combustor is analyzed. The analysis is based on the numerical solution of the problem of a three-dimensional two-phase flow with combustion. Computations for four models of fuel droplet feed are based on the integration of Reynolds equations for the gas phase and Lagrange equations for the fuel droplets. The influence of the initial conditions on the combustor exit gas temperature field non-uniformity is found to be insignificant. The comparison of the numerical results with the test data showed their better agreement for radial rather than circumferential nonuniformity.

Abstract

The methodology and results of the numerical simulation of gas flow with sprayed fuel combustion
in a helicopter gas turbine annular combustor are presented. The goal of the simulation is to
predict the non-uniformity of the combustor exit gas temperature field. The calculations are performed in two settings: a) with the simplified model of a full-size combustor included in the computational domain; b) with the one-burner sector of the combustor included in the computational domain and setting periodic boundary conditions. The results of the numerical simulation confirmed the influence of periodic boundary conditions on the accuracy of prediction of the combustor exit gas temperature field. The full-size combustor calculation is shown to be more appropriate and universal but more costly than the calculation of its one-burner sector.

Some peculiarities of high-altitude starting of engines of the RD-33 type

Abstract

Some peculiarities of high-altitude starting of engines of the RD type using oxygen are described in the paper. Negative influence of oxygen feeding of spark plugs in reverse current zones of starting jets in the main combustion chamber has been discovered on the basis of analyzing the data of several flights. It is suggested that the engine start cyclogram be changed with the time of oxygen feed shifted. We propose to feed compressed air from the airborne pneumatic system instead of oxygen to the spark plugs. It is also suggested that the spark plug and the ignition system be modernized to improve flame elongation and the efficiency of break-down into the reverse current area of the starting jets.

The influence of tether jamming on the motion of a space tether system during dynamic deployment

Abstract

The emergency situation of tether jamming that occurs in the process of its dynamic deployment when a payload is being delivered from the orbit is discussed in the paper. The influence of the moment of jamming on the subsequent motion of the space tether system elements is analyzed. It is shown that the events may develop in three possible ways after the jamming takes place: collision of the payload with the spacecraft, the winding of the tether on the spacecraft or a series of rebounds of the payload which do not result in collision or winding. Jamming at the initial stage of deployment is the most hazardous scenario as it leads to the collision of the payload with the spacecraft or the winding of the tether.

Experimental study of a power absorber of accelerated fluid flow in pipelines

Abstract

The paper presents the results of experimental research of the efficiency of the power absorber of accelerated fluid flow in processing plant pipelines. The experimental equipment and measuring devices used in testing the absorber are described. Experimental and design characteristics of the throttle damper for a steady fluid flow are compared. The oscillograms of transient processes in a pipeline that confirm the adequacy of the design model and the required efficiency of the absorber’s action are presented.

Mathematical modeling of heat exchange on air cooling of a number of aluminum ingots

The paper is devoted to the development of a mathematical model of heat exchange between heat-treated aluminum ingots and cooling air. The cooling process takes place in a cooling chamber that allows automatic regulation of the process. Numerical simulation of separation processes in mechanical working

Abstract

The paper deals with the methodological peculiarities of numerical simulation of separation processes in the context of the finite element method. It is shown that a poorly conditioned global stiffness matrix reflects the essence of the separation process. A method for monitoring the reliability and accuracy of the calculated data by means of the spectrum of a non-regularized global stiffness matrix is put forward. The possibility of assessing the spectrum of a global stiffness matrix through the sums of local matrices is shown.

Determining the angle of advance of ignition when switching from petrol to gas depending on fuel mixture burning rate

Abstract

The paper presents an algorithm of determining the angle of advance of ignition in case the engine is switched from petrol to gas fuel in accordance with the fuel mixture burning rate depending on many parameters and close to the actual physical processes taking place in combustion chambers of internal combustion engines. Tentative calculation of changing the angle of advance of ignition for compressed natural gas and liquefied hydrocarbon gas has been made. Possible errors and ways of their minimization as well as the order of implementing the algorithm when determining coefficients of the influencing parameters are shown.

Identifying the boundaries of skin tumors by differential backscatter

Abstract

The paper presents the experimental results of identifying the boundaries of skin tumors by differential backscatter. The differential coefficient of backscatter is proposed to be used as the threshold condition for identifying the boundary. The analysis of the skin of 27 patients showed that the ratio introduced makes it possible to identify the boundary of the tumors to within 1 mm with simultaneous identification of tumor types for pigmented nevi, epidermoid cancer and melanoma.

Log-periodic oscillations in hierarchical models

Abstract

We explore the log-periodic behavior which is known to precede the critical events of some complex systems. Particularly, we consider the hierarchical model of financial crashes introduced by A. Johansen and D. Sornette which reproduces the log-periodic power law behavior of the price before the critical point. In order to build the generalization of this model we introduce the dependence of an influence exponent on an ultrametric distance between agents. Much attention is being paid to the problem of critical point universality which is investigated by comparison of probability density functions of the crash times corresponding to systems with various total numbers of agents.

Simulation modeling of stock markets

Abstract

In the framework of microscopic simulation a mathematical model of the stock exchange is developed in the case of one type of shares. The model exhibits self-maintained trading which results in the price formation which is sensitive only to the values of internal market parameters. The main statistical properties of the resulting price time series which are similar to the real stock time series are consistent with so-called stylized facts of real market data. The program Exchange simulation which is a computer representation of our model is developed and implemented.
