Abstract

The article discusses the features and content of the lexical composition of the popular German-Russian phrasebook (edited by F. Sulzberger in the period of the First World War) reissued in 1938 for the needs of the army of the Third Reich. The military Phrasebook of Sulzberger (sample in 1938) is considered as a coherent text in conjunction with the material, ideological life, ethnic and socio-cultural, psychological factors. It is a special pragmatically oriented text in the event-specific aspect of the military situation and militarist doctrine of the German Wehrmacht on the eve of the Second World War. The military phrase book as a kind of active type (genre) of transferable ideographic (thematic) dictionary with a predominant function of translation is focused on communication user’s interests to ensure a minimum of communication in certain situations.
