Abstract

The article considers the ancient concept of lies and deception. This is done in the context of the Greek dispute, «who is better»: truthful Achillesus or cunning Odysseus. Analysis suggests that despite the ambiguity of the relationship to the phenomenon of lying, the Greek philosophers considered the very ability to lie as one of the most important mental abilities, and attraction to deception, as a fenomenon of a free mind.
