«GALLANT DIALOGUE» AS AUTHOR’S STRATEGY IN CATHERINE II’S COMEDIES

Akimova T.I.

Abstract

In the article comedy as one of the leading genres of classical enlightenment-absolutist system of Catherine II is viewed. Special giving by the empress of educational purpose of literature was very important for the establishment, on the one hand, of intimate and
friendly, and on the other hand – of a theatrical way of «dialogue»
with the viewer. A basis of comedy action was in plays of the monarchies misunderstanding by her citizens of rules of secular
behavior which brought in the comedy final to the statement of sense of any proverb training noble young people to mutual respect science at recognition of personal and aristocratic advantage. «Gallant dialogue» assisted removal in secular society of the conflict and search of a compromise. Therefore the empress chooses for herself an author’s mask of the servant to show theatrical effect of gallant behavior: courtesy and rationality in behavior of the nobleman will be read by an environment more, than appearance or boasting of the young hero. Thus, the system of characters is built by the author not only on a social feature, but also on moral ethical one.

Abstract

The category of modality is used for the analysis of stories of Nabokov from the storybook «The Eye». The concept of nonclassical narrative (M. Dymarskii) and change of narrative modality (G. Genette) in the stories by Nabokov. With the help of modality types allocated by M. Epstein – valid / invalid, possible /impossible, random / required – are opposed to the possibility offered by the author, and the choice that makes the hero. Preference by the hero of negative pole of modality leads to the convergence of views of the author and character and vice versa.

RUSSIAN «NEW DRAMA» AXIOLOGICAL EXPERIMENT AT THE TURN OF THE XX–XXI CENTURY

Kislova L.S., Dracheva S.O.

Abstract

The research focuses on the problem of ethical choices in Russian “new drama” at the turn of the XX–XXI century. Nowadays «new drama» is perceived as an axiological experiment. It has adopted the main principle of the “Theatre of Cruelty” by Antonin Artaud; it is shocking and traumatizing the reader/viewer. A hero of the “new drama” is an inadequate marginal. He is suffering, aggressive, and being “on the edge”. He seems to be tested for human viability. Thus, the ethical values are the central problem
in modern drama. The playwrights’ texts are performative. It means, that they do not reflect a reality, which exists, but they model a new one, in which the characters would choose between cruelty and mercy, love and hatred, truth and falsehood, slavery and freedom.

HOUSE AS VALUE IN THE RUSSIAN DRAMA OF THE FIRST HALF OF THE XX CENTURY

Tyutelova L.G.

Abstract

Through the observation of dramatic space transformation the article considers how Soviet authors of the first half of the XX century solve the problem of the relationship between the man and the world. It is proved that the development of Soviet drama is primarily determined by Gorky tradition characterized by the study of the laws of social life and human social behavior. The evolution of the image of the house, as well as the evolution of dramatic character, indicates a new value system created by the Soviet drama of the first half of the XX century. House loses its
individual features and «opens» to the world.

Abstract

The article deals with two screen versions of A. Chekhov’s play «The Seagull»: Yu. Karasik’s film (Mosfilm, 1970) and M. Terekhova’s film (M-film, 2005). The author proves that Yu. Karasik changed the order of some scenes, shortened and eliminated some dialogues and monologues.
M. Terekhova preserved A. Chekhov’s text in full. It gave her the opportunity to make a two-hour voluminous film. But speaking about the films’ success, it should be noted that Yu. Karasik could portray A. Chekhov’s play with the minimum of distortions, while M. Terekhova’s blind acceptance of the play didn’t help her to make a successful version.
