The nominations of famous people fixed in the modernpress served as a material for the article. Issues of contextualvariation of formal and informal names are touched upon, theregularities of their use in modern newspaper language are marked.Stylistic peculiarities of functioning of newspaper nominations arenoted in the article. Specificity of usage of different nominationtypes in different communicative situations is identified.
