Symmetric airfoil shape optimization using the adjoint gradient method for viscous turbulent incompressible flow

Abstract

The problem of minimizing drag of symmetric airfoil at the given area and chord is dealt with. Optimization is obtained by the adjoint gradient method for an incompressible viscous flow. The primal problem is solved by the SIMPLE algorithm using the Star-CD software. Adjoint equations are solved by the SIMPLE adapted algorithm.
