Abstract
This article discusses the development of physical culture and sports in Kuibyshev in the 1940–1950-ies. Basic government documents, regulating sports activity and physical culture are reported. Organizational problems, behavioral practices of citizens in voluntary sports societies and during competitions; the ideological context in the Soviet system of physical education on the materials of local periodicals are analyzed. The conclusion is made about the growing role of physical education and sport in the lives of citizens, especially in the postwar period.
