Abstract

The article is devoted to the image of Emperor Paul I in the Russian historical science and arts at the turn of the XIX- XX centuries; it is argued that the evolution of this image mirrored the internal contradictions in the minds of Russian intellectuals and in their attitudes to the autocratic power.
